At Suite Club I handled positioning, communication and community management from 2011 to 2012. The work had four parts: the club's local positioning, its advertising materials, the public relations tools around it, and a programme of weekly events.
A venue is not positioned once. Every week the events programme either confirmed what the club said it was or contradicted it, and the room showed which. Advertising and PR could make the promise; the night had to keep it. That is why I ran the community side as well as the communication: the people who came back were the real measure of the positioning.
What I take forward
I learned positioning where it is tested fastest: in a room, every week, by the people who decide whether to return.
