In 2016 I played Nasser in Would Jamaa El Fna, a short film directed by Ali Ben Chekroune and named after Marrakech's great square. The film went on to the Short Film Corner at Cannes.
This is a creative credit, not a commission. I was not the strategist or the producer; I was an actor taking direction from someone else. That taught me what a camera asks of the person in front of it. Four years later, interviewing and directing sixty-six entrepreneurs on camera for the OIF series, I knew that from the inside.
What I take forward
I have stood where the people I film and interview stand, and it changes how I direct them.
